Organisation and Funding

The main driving power for the development of the COMTES700-project was a group of major European power generators named “Emax Power Plant Initiative”. From this group a consortium was formed ready to support the project with a substantial financial contribution. Members of this consortium are EDF (France), Electrabel (Belgium), Dong (Denmark), EnBW (Germany), E.ON (Germany), PPC (Greece), RWE (Germany), Vattenfall Nordic (Denmark) and Vattenfall Europe (Germany).

In order to underline the necessity of an EU support of coal-based energy research, the group decided to apply for additional funding within the Research Programme of the European Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) which positively evaluated the proposal.

The project is carried out from July 1, 2004, to December 31, 2011, by Alstom Power Boiler GmbH, Hitachi Power Europe GmbH, Burmeister & Wain Energy A/S, Siemens AG, Elsam Engineering A/S and VGB PowerTech e. V. The total budget is amounting to 15.2 Million Euro. 57 % thereof is funded by the generators’ consortium, 40 % by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel* and 3 % by the suppliers involved. The project is steered by the COMTES700-partners consortium and co-ordinated by VGB.
